I hadn’t considered myself a boss until I was approached by giffgaff to write about an occasion where I’d taken control of my own destiny.
They’ve made a video showing “members, not customers” doing their own thing to highlight how we’re #alltheboss…
I wrote recently about luck or, rather, lack of it but something I do have is, when I’m not at the mercy of others with a Labyrinthitis bout, is independence.
It’s easy to follow the crowd, be a metaphorical sheep, but, to stand your ground and do your own thing takes guts I think. Especially now we’re so swamped in media with one ‘expert’ or another telling us what to wear, where to go, what to eat, how to behave…!
Unfortunately my independence coupled with my social anxiety probably makes me appear standoffish or snobby which isn’t at all the case…each to their own but I (usually) know my own mind.
More years ago than I care to remember I was acknowledging the fact that I’d made a BIG mistake in getting married…I won’t go into the whys and wherefores here, but, I had to formulate a plan to get my independence back.
I finally learnt to drive (only took 7 attempts to pass my test, woo and indeed, hoo!) and worked more hours to save up my own ,money…yes I did that stupid thing of only having joint accounts…big lesson learned.
When it came to discuss getting divorced we actually managed to do it quite amicably apart from the hideous fight over the dog and, having never lived on my own (I left home to live with my fiance) I had to go about finding somewhere to live, and work out expenses to run a home. I’m proud to say I only came a cropper a couple of times when I had to swallow my pride and ask to borrow money, but, all-in-all I’m proud to say I was good at it.
So good in fact that I’ve only shared my home once since – don’t even ask! – I hate the idea of responsibility at work but do it well at home.
Thanks to this blog I’m also now part self-employed which adds extra responsibility and spending hour upon hour on hold to HMRC waiting to talk to the right person I don’t love, but, being the boss of Lisa’s Life…I could do worse!
Speaking of blogs, giffgaff also have their own blog so you can pop along there and share your own #MyBossStory 🙂
Who and what are you the boss of?
