A Blipmeet at Hitchin Lavender

Yesterday I had a super meetup with Blipfoto friends at Anglesey Abbey, yet I have only just got round to finishing the photos from our photography trip to Hitchin Lavender back in July!

I’ve written before about how every so often a few of us blippers meet up for a natter and some photography…this usually involves food and drink too and this day was no exception.

My sat nav got me lost though and I arrived late so the first round of tea and cake was done…I was genuinely hungry and thirsty though so had a rooibos and a chocolate brownie before joining the others in the purple 🙂

I knew the lavender farm was here but had never visited as it’s not exactly on the doorstep. I’ve got the feeling that in previous years the lines and gradients would have triggered a dizzy migraine so I’m pleased I waited for good health and good company!

It wasn’t the brightest of days for July but we managed to capture some decent shots between us. My instinct is that the lavender has been overfarmed due to its popularity as the crop certainly wasn’t looking its best.

Very sparse and patchy in places; the gardeners were getting out and trying to rid the field of weeds too. I still loved being among it though.

Lots of insect activity though with several varieties of bugs and bees making their way through the rows…

After a tip off from fellow blipper Ann I wanted to snap a Skylark…didn’t get the image I wanted but got one I liked and one in flight too.

All this and a few poppies too; I loved it!

I probably should take a trip to Norfolk Lavender next year. Another attraction not a million miles away that I’ve never visited!

Funny thing is, although it’s my favourite colour, I don’t actually like the scent of lavender! This means I wasn’t tempted in the gift shop!

Have you visited a lavender farm this year?
