Time To Focus On Myself

For several years I’ve been having to be more aware of my mental health. I’ve documented already the different ways I’ve dealt with depression and anxiety but more recently I’ve been seeking out natural ways to boost my broken brain too.

I’ve started enjoying the outdoors more again which was tough after losing Stella. My diet has gone a little awry too after my hard work to get well and lose weight last year so I’m trying to re-introduce healthier eating which will be good for mind and body.

Though I’ve found love again after a very long time on my own, this isn’t without it’s stresses and complications. My lovely boyfriend was diagnosed with prostate cancer which he’s fighting well, but, he has added money and family worries.

Being a man he tries to deal with things on his own and says I mustn’t let these concerns trouble me. Of course they trouble me, we’re a partnership now.

Life is throwing obstacles our way, but we’re dealing with them one by one and will hopefully get the better of them all.

I’m also cutting out all the medication I was taking during those horrid dizzy migraine years, including the anti-depressants.

So, when Focus Supplements got in touch and asked me to try their 5-HTP capsules, a natural mood-enhancer, I said yes please straight away.

5-HTP (5-Hydroxtryptophan) is  extracted from the Griffonia Simplicifolia plant and then turned into vegetarian capsules.

The Griffonia Simplicfolia plant is found within the Western and Central regions of Africa. It is acclimatised to growing in conditions close to coastal shores but also deep within the jungle. It is a large shrub like plant that grows thick and fibrous brown branches.
Its flowers are long cylindrical and bud between August and October. It also produces a seed, this seed is rich in the active ingredient, 5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP). In vivo this 5-HTP is a precursor to the neurotransmitter Serotonin.

Benefits of 5-HTP
  • Relieves anxiety, stress and anger (by boosting serotonin levels in the brain)
  • Counteracts feelings of depression and insomnia (a great sleep aid)
  • Fantastic for those who need to lose weight faster by controlling your appetite (reducing binge eating or other excessive eating habits.)

Sadly I’m noticing no truth with that last claim though it would be a very welcome effect! I like to think it’s because my eating habits aren’t excessive.

One of the worst parts of a low mood or anxiety disorder is feeling so dreadfully tired all of the time. I am at last sleeping better though and very pleased about it.  I’m so grateful to 5-HTP for restoring a little of that precious commodity 🙂

These are definitely worth looking into, if, like me, you’d prefer more natural assistance with your mental health issues.

Please read the label of course and don’t forget to talk to friends, family, or your GP about any ongoing worries. A problem shared may not go away but it’s always better than trying to cope alone.
